Baylor Genetics has reported a cybersecurity incident that exposed sensitive information belonging to patients and current and former employees, according to a notice described in a press release from Edelson Lechtzin LLP.
The Houston-based genetic testing laboratory said it identified the incident on or around June 15, 2026, affecting part of its information technology environment. A forensic investigation later found that an unauthorized third party accessed portions of the company’s network between June 11 and June 17, 2026.
Baylor Genetics performs clinical testing for patients on behalf of third-party medical providers and other laboratories. After identifying the incident, the company reviewed what information was involved and who was affected, completing that process on or about July 30, 2026. It has since begun notifying potentially affected individuals.
Information potentially exposed
The company said the types of data involved varied by person.
For patients, the information may have included full names, dates of birth, medical testing information and laboratory test results, health insurance information, and Social Security numbers for a limited subset of patients.
For current and former employees, the information may have included Social Security numbers, government-issued identification numbers, and financial account information.

Who may be affected
The press release said patients and current or former employees of Baylor Genetics, including people who received a data breach notification letter from the company, may face an increased risk of identity theft, medical identity theft, insurance fraud, and related harm.
It also said that because Baylor Genetics performs genetic and laboratory testing, the exposed data may include especially sensitive medical information.
Edelson Lechtzin LLP said it is investigating data privacy claims arising from the breach and a potential class action related to the incident.
